The Toughest Man In The West

Or at the very least the toughest man in Bolton! It's been gratifying to read the plaudits that we have received concerning The Art of Denis McLoughlin. Credit where it's due, author David Ashford and editor Peter Richardson deserve the kudos. The book had some strong pre-publication support and has been selling very solidly for us. However with all eyes currently on the development of Heros the Spartan and the second issue of Illustrators Quarterly I didn't want this great book to get overlooked.

When I first saw those glorious crime noir images that feature in the book I was taken aback by how good they are. Just recently though I've been going back to my first introduction to Denis' oeuvre and that was his sterling work on his first love The Wild West and in particular his work on the Buffalo Bill annuals that I eagerly collected some years ago.

Here comes the Cavalry...

So I thought a few more images to help show more of the range of Denis' great work wouldn't go amiss.

With Christmas just around the corner, and given that you've all been working hard and deserve to give yourselves a bit of a treat, it's worth reminding you that the Deluxe limited edition  just 120 copies available worldwide signed by the author, plus numbered limited edition print and a 12-page facsimile edition Roy Carson comic; is available here.

Of course you'll be wanting to give a copy to those special people in your lives to show how much you care, in which case the handsome devil of a hardback that is the regular edition is also available.

That's all for now, but the more I look at this book the more I find to enjoy so expect more images soon.
Best Regards
Dave

Off To The Races

Following on from Peter's recent post I'm happy to report that this week Illustrators issue Two is on it's way to our printers.

The cover feature is A Brush with Fitzrovia The Elegant Art of David Wright. You can subscribe to Illustrators  here (scroll down the page to get to #2).

In other news work continues apace with Frank Bellamy's Heros The Spartan and while that book is a little way off I was reminded recently of one of my favourite Bellamy illustrations featured in our Frank Bellamy's Story of World War One book.

I can't really imagine the horror that a tank attack would have for a WWI era infantry soldier stuck in a trench but Bellamy certainly gives us a flavour of it here. The wonderful limited edition hardcover, with bonus print limited to 175 copies is available here and the trade edition here
Back with more soon.
Best
Dave

The Eagle Has Landed

And so too have Illustrators Quarterly issue 1 and The Art of Denis McLoughlin

I turned my back for just a minute... oh alright then for a week while I shuffled off to the Orkney's for a cultural tour of the distilleries and breweries... and lo and behold the Book Palace warehouse became the scene of feverish activity.

Photo: 'Illustrators' and 'The Art of Denis McLoughlin' have arrived at our warehouse....THEY WILL BE SENT OUT NEXT WEEK!!!

Four of the seven pallets outside the warehouse with a hint of the wacky wall mural our friend Dylan painted for us.

Detail of pallet construction - more difficult than it looks kids, don't try this at home etc. etc.

First stage of the presort between the two versions of the McLoughlin book and Illustrators; also between retail and wholesale orders in our loading bay area.

Retail orders how now shipped with the exception of the Deluxe copies of The Art of Denis McLoughlin which are due to be signed by the author David Ashford this coming Tuesday. They will then ship in the following few days.

I've had a few telephone conversations with customers and there are two things that need clarifying. Firstly the McLoughlin has no dust jacket - that was an error in the way the book was listed on our site. Secondly the McLoughlin article in Illustrators #1 is completely different in both text and illustration from the content of the Art of Denis McLoughlin; collect one collect them all!

Time for a resting chamomile tea methinks, more soon!
Best Dave.

Ship Ahoy

Long term readers of our blogs will know of the fun we have in tracking the progress of our books from the printers in Hong Kong to their delivery in the UK. On this occasion the good vessel Xin Shanghai has been given the grave duty of safely transporting The Art of Denis McLoughlin and Illustrators Quarterly #1.

Here she is with our container six rows from the back three down from the top in the area reserved for V.I.P.s - that's Very Important Publications as if you have to ask. As I type these immortal words the ship is just approaching that bastion of Britishness Gibraltar. If you'd like to join in the fun there is a link here. Let's hope the ship doesn't get Shanghaied by jealous Pirate Publishers.

More update Soon, Best Dave
